Widdrington Village lies within the NE 61 postal district of Northumberland, near the town of Morpeth. The village derives its name from the historic Widdrington baronets, an ancient Northumbrian family who took their name from the area. In the 17th century the family were strongly Royalist and were rewarded with baronetcies in both the Baronetage of Nova Scotia and the Baronetage of England. The baronetcies created for members of the Widdrington family include one in the Baronetage of Nova Scotia (created 26 September 1635) and two in the Baronetage of England (created 9 July 1642 and 8 August 1642). All three creations are now extinct. The village’s historical association with the Widdringtons highlights its cultural heritage and links to Northumbrian history.
