Dinorwic is a village and community beside the Menai Strait between Bangor and Caernarfon in Gwynedd, northwest. It is best known for the Dinorwic quarry, a large former slate quarry that covered 700 acres (283 ha) and consisted of two main quarry sections with 20 galleries in each. The quarry was the second largest in Wales at the start of the 20th century, after Penrhyn quarry near Bethesda. Extensive internal tramway systems connected the quarries using inclines to transport slate between galleries. Since its closure in 1969, the quarry has become the site of the National Slate Museum, a regular film location, hiking location, and an extreme rock climbing destination. The village lies within the LL 55 postal district and is part of the broader Caernarfon community.
