Tremadog is a community situated within the coastal town of Porthmadog in Gwynedd, Wales, historically part of the former county of Caernarfonshire. The area grew in the nineteenth century as a port for local slate, and although that trade has declined, Porthmadog remains a shopping and tourism centre. The town lies 5 miles east of Criccieth, 11 miles south‑west of Blaenau Ffestiniog, 25 miles north of Dolgellau and 20 miles south of Caernarfon. The community population was 4,185 in the 2011 census and was estimated at 4,134 in 2019. Porthmadog is close to Snowdonia National Park and the Ffestiniog Railway, and hosted the 1987 National Eisteddfod. Nearby localities include Borth‑y‑Gest, Morfa Bychan and Tremadog itself.
