The village lies in south‑west Leicestershire, roughly ten miles south‑west of Leicester city centre. According to the 2001 census, the population was 427 people, a rise from 252 in 1931. Stapleton was originally a chapelry in Barwell parish, and from 1866 it became a civil parish in its own right until it was abolished on 1 April 1935 and merged with Peckleton. The area retains a rural setting with a small community and historic character.
