Fornham St. Martin is part of the town of Bury St Edmunds, situated in Suffolk, England. The town, often simply called Bury, is a cathedral, market town and civil parish in the West Suffolk district. Historically known as Beodericsworth, it was laid out on a grid pattern by Abbot Baldwin around 1080. The town’s most prominent features include Bury St Edmunds Abbey and St Edmundsbury Cathedral, which also serve as the seat of the Diocese of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich of the Church of England. Bury is recognised for its brewing and malting industry, and hosts a British Sugar processing factory that produces Silver Spoon sugar. As the cultural and retail hub for West Suffolk, tourism plays a major role in the local economy, and the built‑up area recorded a population of 41,280 in the 2021 census.
