Lea, Ross‑On‑Wye is situated in the HR 9 postal district of Herefordshire, England. The area is associated with the former Ross‑on‑Wye railway station, which served the town of Ross‑on‑Wye. The station was a junction on the Hereford, Ross and Gloucester Railway, a line that ran over 22½ miles (36.2 km) linking Hereford and Gloucester via Ross‑on‑Wye. The railway opened on 1 June 1855 as a 7 ft 1⁄4 in broad gauge line and was amalgamated with the Great Western Railway in 1862. In 1869 the line was converted to 4 ft 8⁄2 in standard gauge. Passenger services ceased on 2 November 1964, with freight services continuing until 1 November 1965. The locality’s historical connection to this railway line reflects its rural character and links to larger towns in the region.
