Alfington is part of the civil parish of Ottery St. Mary in the East Devon district of Devon, England. The parish, which includes the villages of Metcombe, Fairmile, Alfington, Tipton St John, Wiggaton, and West Hill, had a population of 7,692 at the 2001 census and 7,986 in 2021. The urban area of Ottery St. Mary itself had a population of 4,898 in the 2011 census. The town lies on the River Otter, approximately 10 miles (16 km) east of Exeter on the B3174.
