It is claimed to be the driest recorded place in the United Kingdom. At the 2021 census the parish had a population of 5,157. The area is part of the seaside town of Clacton‑on‑Sea, often simply called Clacton, which is a resort on the east coast of England in the county of Essex, on the Tendring.
