Blagill, Alston, CA9 3NB

Blagill is one of several hamlets within the civil parish of Alston Moor, which also includes Garrigill, Nenthead, Nenthall, Nentsberry, Galligill, Ashgill, Leadgate, Bayles and Raise. The parish sits in the North Pennines, a moorland area that is part of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the second largest of the 40 AONBs in England and Wales. The altitude of the area is over 1000 feet, giving a high‑land character to the landscape. Alston Moor’s population was 2,088 at the 2011 census, and the parish’s centre is the small town of Alston. The hamlet of Blagill is therefore situated in a rural, elevated setting with scenic moorland surroundings and a small community atmosphere.
