Nenthall lies within the civil parish and electoral ward of Alston Moor, which is situated in the Westmorland and Furness district of the ceremonial county of Cumbria, England. The parish is set in the moorlands of the North Pennines, most of which are at an altitude of over 1000 feet. Alston Moor is part of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the second largest of the 40 AONBs in England and Wales. The parish includes the small town of Alston, the villages of Garrigill and Nenthead, and the hamlets of Nenthall, Nentsberry, Galligill, Blagill, Ashgill, Leadgate, Bayles and Raise. At the 2011 census the parish/ward had a population of 2,088. The area is known for its rural character and scenic moorland landscape.
