Blaney East lies within the town of Enniskillen, the county town of Fermanagh in Northern Ireland. Enniskillen is the largest settlement in County Fermanagh, with a population of 14,086 recorded at the 2011 census. The town sits in the middle of the county, between the Upper and Lower sections of Lough Erne, and has a long history dating back to the 15th century. Enniskillen Castle, built in the 15th century as a stronghold of the Maguires, was later brought under English control in the early 17th century. The castle and town expanded during the Plantation of Ulster, and the area served as the seat of local government for the former Fermanagh District Council. The town is also the civil parish of the same name, reflecting its historical and administrative significance in the region.
