It lies along the B15 coast road, 28 kilometres north‑east of Coleraine, 8 kilometres west of Ballycastle and between it and Bushmills. The village is part of the historic barony of Cary and is situated about one kilometre from Ballintoy Harbour, a small fishing harbour at the end of a narrow, steep road down Knocksaughey hill. The harbour hosts a dawn service on Easter Sunday each year. Nearby, the entrance to Larrybane and the Carrick‑a‑Rede Rope Bridge can be accessed via the same road.
