Offham is a village that lies within the parish of Hamsey, situated in the Lewes district of East Sussex, England. The parish covers a large area of 1,144 hectares (2,830 acres) and includes the villages Offham and others. Historically, the area is notable for the Battle of Lewes, which took place on 14 May 1264 and was a key event in the Second Barons' War. The battle saw the forces of King Henry III clash with those of Simon de Montfort, 6th Earl of Leicester, with the royalists ultimately being defeated on Offham Hill. The outcome led to the Mise of Lewes, a significant political settlement. Today, Offham remains a rural community within a historically rich parish, offering a tranquil setting for residents and visitors alike.
