Chirton lies a few kilometres southeast of Devizes, a larger market town in Wiltshire. The parish includes the hamlet of Conock, approximately 800 metres west of Chirton village. Historically, the area was served by the Devizes branch line, a railway that ran from Holt Junction to Patney and Chirton. Opened by the Great Western Railway in 1857, the line became part of the shortest route from London to the West Country after the Reading‑Hungerford line reached Devizes in 1862. Services were rerouted in 1900 and the line closed in 1966. The locality remains a quiet rural setting within the SN10 postal district.
