The parish church of Saint forms a focal point of the locality. Historically, the area was part of the Hundred of Roose, a hundred in Pembrokeshire that was formalised by the Laws in Wales Acts of 1535–1542. The Hundred of Roose covered about 102 square miles (260 km²) and was originally a pre‑Norman cantref of Rhos before becoming an English plantation in the 12th century as part of the Little England beyond Wales.
