In 1931 the parish had a population of 82. Atterby was formerly a township in the parish of Bishop-Norton, and in 1866 it became a civil parish. On 1 April 1936 the parish was abolished and merged with Bishop Norton. The locality is described as a hamlet, indicating a small settlement with limited built environment. It is situated within the rural landscape of Lincolnshire, offering a quiet setting and close proximity to the nearby village of Bishop Norton.
