Normanton on Soar (/ˈnɔːrməntən . ˈsɔːr/), formerly known as Normanton-upon-Soar and locally as Normanton, is a village and civil parish in Leicestershire, England. The River Soar, a major tributary of the River Trent, flows through the area. The source of the river lies midway between Hinckley and Lutterworth, and it continues north through Leicester, joining the Grand Union Canal. The Soar passes through the Leicestershire Soar Valley, including Loughborough and Kegworth, before reaching the Trent at the county boundary. In the 18th century the Soar was made navigable between Loughborough and the Trent, and later linked to the Grand Union Canal, connecting it to the wider network to the south and to London.
