Braunton is situated five miles (8 km) west of Barnstaple and is one of the largest villages in Devon, with a 2021 census population of 10,217 people. The parish contains two electoral wards whose joint population was 8,218 at the same census. The area includes the fertile, low‑lying Braunton Great Field, which adjoins the undulating Braunton Burrows. Braunton Burrows form part of the Core Area in the North Devon Biosphere Reserve and represent the largest psammosere in England.
