The parish contains two electoral wards whose joint population was 8,218 at the same census. The area includes the fertile, low‑lying Braunton Great Field, which adjoins the undulating Braunton Burrows. Braunton Burrows form part of the Core Area in the North Devon Biosphere Reserve and represent the largest psammosere in England. The parish confronts the Atlantic Ocean to the west at the large beach of Saunton Sands, one of the South West’s international‑standard surfing beaches.
