Meldon is a small locality situated in the EX 20 postal district, south‑west of Okehampton in Devon, South West England. The area is best known for the Meldon Viaduct, a disused railway bridge that spans the West Okement River. The viaduct, originally built in 1874, is a wrought‑iron truss bridge that once carried a single track and was later widened for a second track in 1879. Regular services ceased in 1968, but the bridge was used for shunting by a local quarry in the 1990s before the remaining track was removed. The viaduct sits on the edge of Dartmoor, giving the locality a rural character and a link to the region’s industrial heritage.
