Historically, until 1766, Scrooby was on the Great North Road and served as a stopping‑off point for many important figures, including Elizabeth I and Cardinal Wolsey. Cardinal Wolsey stayed at the Manor House briefly after his fall from favour. The village’s small size and historic connections give it a distinct character within the region.
