Betteshanger is a village and former civil parish, now part of the parish of Northbourne in the Dover district of east Kent, UK. It lies near Deal and gave its name to the largest of the four chief collieries of the Kent coalfield. In 1931 the parish had a population of 55, and on 1 April 1935 it was abolished and merged with Northbourne. The locality is characterised by its rural setting and historical association with coal mining. The village’s proximity to Deal places it within a reasonable distance of coastal amenities while retaining a distinct village identity.
