Maryport is a town and civil parish in the Cumberland district of Cumbria, England, situated on the coast of the Solway Firth. The town developed from the mid‑18th century around a new harbour built at the mouth of the River Ellen, and it includes the site of the Roman settlement of Alauna. The parish also contains the village of Flimby. At the 2021 census the built‑up area had a population of 8,525, while the wider parish had 10,865 residents. Maryport lies approximately five miles (8 km) north‑west of the Lake District National Park, placing it within easy reach of the national park’s scenery while remaining a distinct coastal community.
